As we all know, Maruti is the biggest auto manufacturer in India in terms of sheer sales. Demand for small, affordable cars in India is high and is ever growing with a rapid pace as India continues its journey to become an economic powerhouse of south Asia.
The growth of the country has been impressive in the past few years and so has grown the demand for automobiles. To cater to the ever increasing demand, Maruti has planned to open a brand new manufacturing facility in Rohtak which will have a capacity of producing 6 lakh units per annum. The plant is spread over an area of 600 acres and calls for an investment of close to INR. 1000 Crore. When the plant comes online, Maruti will have a boost in capacity to 20 lakh cars a year.
The current 300 acre facility of the company at Gurgaon and Manesar combined has a capacity of producing 12 lakh units per year. With the Rohtak plant, Maruti will hike production by almost 50 percent.
With the Rohtak plant running in full-swing, waiting periods for Maruti cars are expected to come down from the current 3- 4 months. This can be seen as a good move given the popularity of Maruti cars in India and the ever growing demand for cheap and cheerful modes of personal transport.
